About This Song
EMD (Eat My Dust) was written by mandolinist David Grisman. Grisman kept playing it for decades, including in his duo shows with Doc Watson.
| Year | Artist | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1977 | David Grisman Quintet | First track on the band's debut album, with Tony Rice on guitar, Darol Anger on fiddle, Todd Phillips on second mandolin and Bill Amatneek on bass; where most players learn the tune |
| 1997 | Doc Watson and David Grisman | Live, on Doc & Dawg: Live at Acoustic Stage, not released until 2018 |
The chord to notice is the flat 6⁷. It's a dominant seventh, not the plain chord you'd expect in a minor key, and it trades bars with the 1 minor until the 5⁷ finally shows up on the last half-bar.
