About This Song

Two Dollar Bill (Long Journey Home) is a traditional song with no known author. The first known recording is by the Monroe Brothers. As "My Long Journey Home," it was the first song Charlie and Bill Monroe recorded at their first session in February 1936, and it was released that June. It has the same tune as the Carter Family's "Worried Man Blues" and the gospel song "Do Lord, Remember Me." Recorded versions of those go back to the mid 1920s.

The song has been recorded under several titles. Many players also know it from Doc Watson, who played it throughout his career.
